Based on the Vedic teachings propagated by Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830 CE), it was formally established in 1907 CE by Brahmaswarup Shastriji Maharaj. Commonly known as BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha or just 'BAPS', its global network of mandirs and centres  host many moral, social, cultural and spiritual activities. The energies of BAPS\u2019s youth and sadhu volunteers are also channeled towards a variety of humanitarian activities that include services in times of natural calamities, primary schools, students\u2019 hostels, hospitals, diagnostic camps, anti-addiction drives,  environment-awareness programs, tribal uplift and literacy campaigns. BAPS is an NGO in Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. With the inspiration and guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj, BAPS has earned a place in the hearts of millions throughout the world.
